In the Gallowgate, death is common enough to become ordinary. The poor die of fever, of hunger, of the river, of each other—and the city has long since stopped asking why.
The Sisters of St. Margaret’s tend to them all. It is quiet work—and meant to stay that way. But for Sister Agnes, the dead reveal what the living overlook.
Six women. Killed within months of one another. Arranged, not discarded—left to be found, though almost no one is looking.
The city accepts each death on its own terms. Her vows demand obedience, but Agnes cannot let them pass unnoticed. Detective Constable Arthur Harris has begun asking the same questions—but in a city where poverty is ordinary and violence expected, seeing them for what they are may be impossible.
If these women are to be remembered, someone must first refuse to look away.
